How NOT to win friends…

and NOT influence people.

Denver could face a “dangerous situation” on the first day of the Democratic National Convention, war protesters said Thursday, after losing a coveted permit for Civic Center to the convention host committee.

“When things blow up because the police have to enforce a permit that the Democrats got, don’t blame us for that,” said Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer for the Re-create 68 Alliance.

Well, I think I will blame them for that.

Why?

Let’s see….a group named for, and glorifying a convention remembered for violence and riots is threatening to create a “dangerous situation.”  They also announced that they are going to break the law by marching “with or without permits.”  It sure sounds to me like they’re the ones “blowing things up.”

The interesting part is that these folks don’t know who their dealing with.  Maybe someone needs to remind them of a few things, like the Denver Police’s penchant for killing people.  Or maybe how the police tend to treat protesters that threaten violence (see: Columbus Day).  Finally, these people might want to read up on Colorado’s “Make My Day” law which allows lethal force by individuals who are defending their property, let alone themselves.  In short, if this group isn’t careful the only “blowing up” they’ll be doing will be to air mattresses outside local hospitals waiting for their wounded buddies to heal.

But what do I care? The ’68 convention led to the election of Richard Nixion and an era where 5 of the last 7 presidents have been Republican.  So go nuts people.  You’re the best advertisement for voting Republican imaginable.
